While the Investigative Committee’s request to place Michael Calvey under a strict form of house arrest has been granted, similar requests have not been extended to his colleagues Philippe Delpal, Ivan Zyuzin, Vagan Abgaryan and Maxim Vladimirov. All four continue to be illegally held in pre-trial detention centres based on trumped-up charges and are deprived of contact with their families, despite having the same basis for being granted house arrest as Michael Calvey. Just like Michael, the remaining four are engaged in investment activities in Russia, are integrated into the local community and are raising young children. Several of them are also engaged in charitable activities and providing assistance to children.
Baring Vostok will continue to appeal to higher courts. We are confident that the court will establish our colleagues’ innocence. This case is the result of a commercial conflict that should be resolved in arbitration, making the detention of Baring Vostok employees in detention centres or even under house arrest illegal.
