Media statement

We view as unfounded the First Court of Appeal’s decision to reject appeals against the extension of house arrest for Michael Calvey, Philippe Delpal, Maxim Vladimirov, Vagan Abgaryan and Ivan Zyuzin until 13 November 2020. For one year and nine months the courts have refused to acknowledge that the criminal case against these individuals was instigated by opponents in a corporate dispute related to Vostochny Bank. There is no corpus delicti and the entire affair amounts to abuse Russia’s law enforcement system to achieve commercial ends. There are no grounds for arrest and detention whatsoever, and the absence of any claims relating to the transactions underlying the criminal case have been confirmed in several courts of arbitration, as well as by the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
